Best Sleep Supplement in India 2026: An Evidence-Based Review (12 Products Tested)
By REINCARN Science Team | August 2026 | 14 min read
The Indian sleep supplement market has exploded. Walk through any pharmacy or scroll Amazon India and you will find dozens of options - gummies, capsules, tablets, powders - all promising "better sleep." But which ones actually work? And more importantly, which ones are backed by evidence rather than just marketing?

We reviewed 12 of the most popular sleep supplements available in India in 2026 and scored them against 6 objective, evidence-based criteria. This is not a sponsored list. We did not accept products for review. We purchased each product (or verified its publicly listed ingredients and claims) and evaluated them against the same scientific framework.
Transparency note: REINCARN Night Reboot™ is included in this review. We are the manufacturer. We have applied the same criteria to our product that we apply to every other product in this list. We believe the data speaks for itself - and we encourage you to verify every claim we make.
The 6-Criteria Scoring System
Most "best sleep supplement" articles rank products based on Amazon ratings, influencer endorsements, or subjective "feel." We think that is not good enough. Sleep is a measurable biological process, and supplements should be evaluated with the same rigour you would apply to any health intervention.
Our 6 criteria:
| # | Criterion | What We Look For | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Deep Sleep Evidence | Does the product have EEG polysomnography data showing increased N3 deep sleep? Not subjective self-report - objective brainwave measurement. | Deep sleep (N3) is where physical repair, memory consolidation, and glymphatic clearance occur. A supplement that only helps you fall asleep faster (sleep onset) without improving N3 is addressing a symptom, not the root cause. Deep Sleep: What It Is, Why You're Not Getting Enough, and How to Get It Back |
| 2 | Cortisol Activity | Does the product contain ingredients with clinical evidence for reducing cortisol - the hormone that suppresses deep sleep? | Elevated evening cortisol is one of the strongest predictors of reduced N3 (Hirotsu et al., 2015). A sleep supplement that ignores cortisol is ignoring one of the primary biochemical barriers to deep sleep. |
| 3 | Hormone-Free | Does the product avoid exogenous hormones (primarily melatonin)? | Chronic high-dose melatonin (5-10mg, which is 50-100x the clinical dose of 0.1-0.3mg) risks receptor downregulation, suppressed endogenous production, and dependency. Melatonin at 5mg: Why Your Sleep Gummy Is Giving You 50x the Clinical Dose |
| 4 | Clinical Dose Disclosure | Does the product disclose exact mg amounts for each active ingredient on its label? Are those doses consistent with clinical evidence? | Many supplements use proprietary blends that hide individual ingredient amounts, or use sub-clinical doses to cut costs. Transparency is baseline accountability. |
| 5 | Morning Outcome Data | Is there evidence (clinical or mechanistic) that the product improves next-morning outcomes - energy, alertness, cognitive function? | Sleep is not an end in itself - it is a means to next-day performance. A product that sedates you but leaves you groggy has failed its primary purpose. |
| 6 | Format Efficacy | Is the delivery format optimised for bioavailability and absorption speed? | Powder dissolves faster than capsules or gummies. Gummies require binders, sugars, and coatings that reduce active ingredient concentration and slow absorption. Format is not marketing - it is pharmacokinetics. |
Each criterion is scored as: YES (1 point), PARTIAL (0.5 points), or NO (0 points). Maximum score: 6/6.
Methodology note: This scoring framework was designed by the REINCARN Science Team. While we believe these criteria reflect evidence-based sleep science, readers should be aware that any scoring system involves editorial judgment. We encourage readers to evaluate the criteria themselves and determine which factors matter most for their individual needs. Different consumers may reasonably weigh these criteria differently.

Individual Product Reviews
1. WUW Sleep Gummies - 0.5/6
Key ingredients: Melatonin 5mg, Passiflora, L-Theanine
Format: Gummies | Price: ~Rs. 599 / 30 gummies (~Rs. 20/serving)
WUW is perhaps the most visible sleep gummy brand in India, with strong influencer-driven marketing and appealing packaging. However, the formulation raises concerns. The 5mg melatonin dose is 50x the clinically effective range of 0.1-0.3mg (Zhdanova et al., 2001). There is no deep sleep evidence - WUW's positioning is around "falling asleep faster," which melatonin does modestly (7 minutes, Ferracioli-Oda 2013). No cortisol-addressing ingredients. The gummy format requires gelatin, sugar, and flavouring agents that reduce active ingredient concentration per gram. Individual ingredient doses beyond melatonin are not prominently disclosed.
Best for: Users who prefer a convenient, pleasant-tasting gummy format for occasional sleep support. Concern: Long-term melatonin dependency at supraphysiological dose.
2. Carbamide Forte Melatonin - 1.5/6
Key ingredients: Melatonin 10mg, Tagara, Tagar
Format: Tablets | Price: ~Rs. 449 / 120 tablets (~Rs. 3.75/serving)
Carbamide Forte delivers 10mg melatonin - 100x the clinical dose. To their credit, they are transparent about dosing (individual mg amounts are listed) and their price point is the lowest in this review. The tablet format is better than gummies for bioavailability. However, 10mg of exogenous melatonin is a significant hormonal intervention, not a gentle sleep aid. No cortisol-activity ingredients. No deep sleep evidence. No morning outcome data. The Tagara inclusion (Valeriana wallichii) is a positive - it is an evidence-based Ayurvedic herb with GABA-ergic activity - but the dose is not prominently disclosed.
Best for: Budget-conscious users who want melatonin and are aware of the trade-offs. Concern: 100x supraphysiological melatonin dosing.
3. HK Vitals (by HealthKart) Melatonin - 1.5/6
Key ingredients: Melatonin 10mg, Tagara
Format: Tablets | Price: ~Rs. 399 / 90 tablets (~Rs. 4.40/serving)
Very similar profile to Carbamide Forte. 10mg melatonin (100x clinical dose), tablet format, transparent dosing. HK Vitals benefits from HealthKart's distribution and brand trust. The formulation is simple - melatonin plus Tagara - which means fewer interactions but also fewer synergistic benefits. No deep sleep evidence, no cortisol activity beyond what Tagara may provide (though the dose is unclear), no morning outcome data.
Best for: HealthKart ecosystem users. Concern: Same 100x melatonin issue as Carbamide Forte.
4. ZzzQuil Natura (by Vicks/P&G) - 1.5/6
Key ingredients: Melatonin 10mg, Valerian root, Lavender, Chamomile
Format: Gummies | Price: ~Rs. 499 / 24 gummies (~Rs. 21/serving)
ZzzQuil Natura benefits from P&G's pharma credibility and Vicks brand trust. The formulation is more complex than WUW's, including valerian (a GABA agonist with some cortisol-modulating evidence) and calming botanicals. However, the 10mg melatonin dose is the same 100x problem. Dose disclosure is good - P&G tends to be transparent. The gummy format reduces active ingredient density. The price point is the highest per serving in this review, partly reflecting the brand premium. No EEG deep sleep data. The herbal ingredients (valerian, lavender, chamomile) have modest evidence individually but are rarely studied at the doses used in gummy formulations.
Best for: Users who trust pharma brands and want a multi-ingredient gummy. Concern: High melatonin dose, highest price/serving, gummy format limitations.
5. Boldfit Sleep - 1.5/6
Key ingredients: Melatonin, Vitamin B6 as P5P, Valerian, Chamomile, L-Theanine
Format: Tablets/Capsules | Price: ~Rs. 399-499 / 60 servings (~Rs. 7-8/serving)
Boldfit has a broader ingredient profile than most melatonin-only competitors, including ingredients with cortisol-reduction evidence (hence the partial score on cortisol activity) and L-Theanine. The capsule format is better than gummies for bioavailability. However, individual ingredient doses are not always prominently disclosed (proprietary blend concerns), and the melatonin inclusion means it is not hormone-free. No EEG deep sleep evidence. The specific forms and doses of herbal ingredients are not always clearly specified on the label.
Best for: Users who want a multi-ingredient approach at a mid-range price. Concern: Dose transparency, generic Vitamin B6 as P5P form, melatonin.
6. Plix Sleep - 1/6
Key ingredients: Melatonin, Valerian, Chamomile, L-Theanine
Format: Gummies | Price: ~Rs. 599 / 30 gummies (~Rs. 20/serving)
Plix targets the same demographic as WUW - young, Instagram-native consumers who want sleep support in a fun format. The ingredient list includes valerian (partial cortisol credit) and L-Theanine, which is positive. But the gummy format constrains active ingredient density, melatonin is present (not hormone-free), individual doses are partially disclosed, and there is no deep sleep or morning outcome evidence. The branding is strong but the formulation does not differentiate meaningfully from WUW.
Best for: Plix brand loyalists. Concern: Premium pricing relative to similar melatonin gummy formulations in the market.
7. Oziva Sleep - 2/6
Key ingredients: Valerian, Chamomile, Jatamansi, Vitamin B6 as P5P, Brahmi (some variants include low-dose melatonin)
Format: Capsules/Tablets | Price: ~Rs. 499-699 / 30-60 servings
Oziva takes a more Ayurvedic approach, which is refreshing in a market where most products rely primarily on melatonin. The inclusion of Jatamansi and Brahmi - traditional nervines with some evidence for sleep support - is differentiated. Vitamin B6 as P5P provides partial cortisol activity. Some Oziva sleep products include melatonin at lower doses, others do not (check the specific variant - this varies). Dose disclosure is partial. Capsule format is better than gummies. No EEG data, no morning outcome evidence. The Ayurvedic direction is legitimate but lacks the clinical rigour of standardised, RCT-tested ingredients.
Best for: Users who prefer Ayurvedic-forward formulations. Concern: Inconsistent formulations across variants, partial dose disclosure.
8. Organic India Sleep - 2/6
Key ingredients: Vitamin B6 as P5P, Gotu Kola, Shankhpushpi, Jatamansi (herbal blend)
Format: Capsules | Price: ~Rs. 350-450 / 60 capsules (~Rs. 6-7.50/serving)
Organic India earns the hormone-free point - their sleep formula does not contain melatonin, relying entirely on Ayurvedic herbs. This is commendable. The Vitamin B6 as P5P inclusion provides partial cortisol activity. However, the formulation uses a proprietary herbal blend without individual dose disclosure (hence the NO on criterion 4). The ingredients are traditional nervines with historical use but limited clinical trial data at the specific doses used. No EEG deep sleep evidence. No morning outcome data. The capsule format is decent for bioavailability.
Best for: Users who want a purely herbal, melatonin-free option from a trusted Ayurvedic brand. Concern: Proprietary blend, no dose transparency, no clinical data on the specific formulation.
9. Ace Blend Swift Sleep - 1/6
Key ingredients: Melatonin, GABA, L-Theanine, Magnesium, Chamomile
Format: Gummies | Price: ~Rs. 549 / 30 gummies (~Rs. 18/serving)
Ace Blend includes some interesting ingredients - GABA and magnesium alongside melatonin and L-Theanine. The magnesium is a positive (partial cortisol score), but the form is not specified (oxide vs bisglycinate makes a massive difference - 10% vs 80%+ bioavailability). Melatonin is present, so not hormone-free. Individual doses are partially disclosed. Gummy format. No deep sleep evidence, no morning outcome data. The GABA inclusion is interesting but oral GABA has limited blood-brain barrier penetration - its clinical efficacy as an oral supplement is debated (Boonstra et al., 2015).
Best for: Users who want a multi-ingredient gummy with GABA. Concern: Unspecified magnesium form, oral GABA efficacy questions, melatonin.
10. Nutrabay Sleep - 1.5/6
Key ingredients: Melatonin, L-Theanine, Magnesium
Format: Tablets/Capsules | Price: ~₹699-449 / 60 servings (~Rs. 6-7.50/serving)
Nutrabay offers a straightforward formulation with transparent dosing - you know exactly what you are getting. The tablet/capsule format is better than gummies. Price point is reasonable. However, melatonin is present (not hormone-free), no cortisol-addressing ingredients, no deep sleep evidence, and no morning outcome data. The magnesium form (oxide vs chelated) varies by specific product - check the label. Nutrabay is a solid budget option if you are committed to melatonin supplementation, but it does not address the deeper sleep quality question.
Best for: Budget-conscious users who want simple, transparent melatonin + L-Theanine. Concern: Melatonin dependency, no deep sleep activity.
11. Be.On DND - 1/6
Key ingredients: Melatonin, Valerian, Chamomile, Passionflower
Format: Gummies | Price: ~Rs. 549 / 30 gummies (~Rs. 18/serving)
Be.On DND positions itself as a premium sleep gummy with a focus on design and branding. The ingredient list is similar to Plix and WUW - melatonin plus calming botanicals. Valerian provides partial cortisol activity. Individual doses are partially disclosed. Gummy format. No deep sleep evidence, no morning outcome data. The brand aesthetic is premium but the formulation does not differentiate meaningfully from other melatonin gummies in this price range.
Best for: Design-conscious consumers who want a premium gummy experience. Concern: Premium pricing relative to similar melatonin gummy formulations available in this price range.
12. REINCARN Night Reboot™ - 6/6
Key ingredients: Maizinol (UP165), Glycine 3,000mg, Magnesium Bisglycinate, L-Theanine, Tart Cherry Extract, Vitamin B6 (as P5P), Tagara (Valeriana wallichii)
Format: Powder sachets | Price: ₹699 / 7-pack (₹100/serving) | ₹1,999 / 30-pack (₹67/serving) | Launch: ₹549 / 7-pack | ₹1,699 / 30-pack | Subscribe ₹1,499/month
Total actives: 4,602mg per sachet | Melatonin: 0mg
Deep Sleep Evidence - YES: Maizinol (UP165) has a 2024 RCT (KGK Science, n=80, randomised double-blind placebo-controlled) showing +94 minutes of EEG-measured deep sleep. This is polysomnography data - the gold standard in sleep research. No other product in this review has anything comparable. Maizinol: The Ingredient That Activates Melatonin Receptors Without Melatonin
Cortisol Activity - YES: Two cortisol-active ingredients: Maizinol (36% cortisol reduction in the KGK Science RCT) and Tagara/Valeriana wallichii (GABA-A receptor modulation via valerenic acid, with indirect cortisol-calming activity). This is the most comprehensive cortisol-addressing formulation in the review.
Hormone-Free - YES: Zero milligrams of exogenous melatonin. Zero exogenous hormones. Maizinol works by upregulating the enzymes (tryptophan hydroxylase, N-acetyltransferase) that your body uses to produce melatonin naturally. This was a deliberate formulation decision, not a marketing gimmick. Melatonin at 5mg: Why Your Sleep Gummy Is Giving You 50x the Clinical Dose
Clinical Dose Disclosure - YES: Every ingredient is individually listed with its exact mg amount. Glycine at 3,000mg (matching the Bannai et al. clinical dose). Magnesium in the bisglycinate form (80%+ bioavailability). Vitamin B6 as P5P (the bioactive cofactor form). No proprietary blends. No hidden doses.
Morning Outcome - YES: The formulation includes Glycine (reduced next-day fatigue in Bannai et al., 2012), L-Theanine (improved subjective morning alertness in Rao et al., 2015), and the cortisol-resetting effect of Maizinol and Tagara (which supports the cortisol awakening response - the healthy morning cortisol surge that drives alertness). The product is designed specifically for next-morning performance, not just nighttime sedation.
Format Efficacy - YES: Powder sachet - the fastest-absorbing oral format. No gelatin, no sugar coating, no capsule shell to dissolve. Powder is mixed with water and absorbed directly through the GI tract. This matters for timing: ingredients reach the bloodstream faster, which is relevant for pre-sleep supplementation where you want effects within 30-45 minutes.
Best for: Anyone who wants evidence-based sleep recovery - particularly the 72% who sleep enough hours but do not wake up refreshed. Trade-off: Higher per-serving cost than basic melatonin tablets (~₹67/serving vs Rs. 4-8 for melatonin tablets) - but the formulation complexity and clinical evidence behind Maizinol explain the premium.

Key Patterns Across the Market
1. Melatonin Dominance Is a Problem
10 out of 12 products contain exogenous melatonin. The entire Indian sleep supplement market has essentially been built on a single ingredient - and it is an ingredient that does not improve deep sleep, is dosed at 50-100x clinical levels, and carries dependency risk. Only Organic India and REINCARN are melatonin-free.
2. Zero Products Have EEG Deep Sleep Evidence (Except One)
None of the 11 competing products have EEG polysomnography data showing that they increase deep sleep. Not subjective self-report - objective brainwave measurement. REINCARN, via Maizinol's KGK Science trial, is the only product in this review with EEG-verified deep sleep improvement.
3. Gummies Are Popular but Suboptimal
Six of 12 products are gummies. The gummy format requires gelatin/pectin, sugar, flavouring, and coating agents - all of which reduce the proportion of active ingredients per gram. A typical gummy weighing 3-4g may contain only 200-400mg of active ingredients. A powder sachet can deliver 4,000mg+ of actives in the same serving. Format is not a cosmetic choice - it is a pharmacokinetic one.
4. Cortisol Is Largely Ignored
Only 3 products include clinically studied cortisol-reducing ingredients at meaningful doses. This is a significant gap. Elevated evening cortisol is one of the strongest predictors of poor deep sleep (Hirotsu et al., 2015), and in a population with 73% nightly screen use and high work stress, cortisol management should be a core function of any sleep supplement.
5. The "Sleep Onset" vs "Sleep Recovery" Divide
Most products in this review are designed to help you fall asleep. Very few are designed to help you recover during sleep. This is the fundamental market gap. 72% of India's young workforce reports not waking up energised - these people can fall asleep fine. Their problem is what happens (or does not happen) after they fall asleep. I Sleep 7 Hours and Still Wake Up Exhausted
The Only 6/6 in the Review
REINCARN Night Reboot™ scored 6/6 on our evidence-based criteria - not because we curved the grading, but because we designed the product to meet exactly these standards. EEG-verified deep sleep evidence. Three cortisol-active ingredients. Zero melatonin. Full dose disclosure. Morning outcome support. Fastest-absorbing format.
4,602mg total actives. 7 ingredients. Zero hormones.

How to Choose: A Decision Framework
Not everyone needs the same thing. Here is a simple framework:
- If you just want to fall asleep 5-10 minutes faster and cost is the primary concern: Carbamide Forte or HK Vitals. Cheap, transparent melatonin at high doses. Be aware of the dependency trade-off.
- If you want a purely Ayurvedic, melatonin-free option: Organic India. Herbal, gentle, hormone-free - but no clinical data on the specific formulation.
- If you want a multi-ingredient approach with some Ayurvedic elements: Oziva or Boldfit. Broader ingredient profiles than pure melatonin, though dose transparency varies.
- If your real problem is waking up exhausted - you can fall asleep but you do not recover: REINCARN Night Reboot™. It is the only product in this review designed specifically for the deep sleep recovery problem, with EEG evidence to back it up.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best sleep supplement in India in 2026?
Based on our 6-criteria evidence-based scoring system - evaluating deep sleep evidence, cortisol activity, hormone-free status, clinical dose disclosure, morning outcome data, and format efficacy - REINCARN Night Reboot™ scored 6/6, the highest in our review of 12 Indian sleep supplements. It is the only product with EEG polysomnography data showing increased deep sleep (+94 minutes via Maizinol, KGK Science 2024 RCT).
Are melatonin gummies safe for daily use in India?
Most Indian melatonin gummies contain 5-10mg - which is 50-100x the clinically effective dose of 0.1-0.3mg. While short-term use may be tolerated, chronic daily use at these doses raises concerns about melatonin receptor downregulation, suppressed endogenous production, morning grogginess, and functional dependency. Melatonin is a hormone, not a vitamin, and should be treated with the corresponding caution.
What is the difference between sleep onset and sleep quality supplements?
Sleep onset supplements (primarily melatonin-based) help you fall asleep faster - by about 7 minutes on average (Ferracioli-Oda 2013). Sleep quality supplements target what happens after you fall asleep - specifically, N3 deep sleep, the restorative stage where physical repair, memory consolidation, and brain waste clearance occur. If your problem is falling asleep, a melatonin supplement may help. If your problem is waking up exhausted despite sleeping enough hours, you need a deep sleep solution.
Why is REINCARN Night Reboot™ more expensive than melatonin tablets?
REINCARN costs ~₹67 per serving compared to Rs. 4-8 for basic melatonin tablets. The cost difference reflects: (1) Maizinol (UP165), a patented clinically-studied ingredient that is more expensive to source than generic melatonin, (2) Glycine at 3,000mg clinical dose per sachet, (3) Magnesium Bisglycinate (80%+ bioavailability vs cheap oxide), (4) Tagara Root (Valeriana wallichii, the Indian valerian), and (5) 4,602mg total actives per serving vs 10-50mg in typical melatonin products. On a cost-per-score-point basis, REINCARN is competitive at ₹11.11.
Can I take sleep supplements every night?
It depends on the supplement. Hormone-free supplements (like those based on glycine, magnesium bisglycinate, L-theanine, and herbal ingredients) are generally considered safe for nightly use as they work through non-hormonal pathways. Melatonin-based supplements, especially at 5-10mg doses, are more concerning for nightly long-term use due to receptor downregulation and endogenous production suppression. Consult a healthcare professional for personalised guidance.
What is EEG polysomnography and why does it matter for sleep supplements?
EEG polysomnography is the gold standard for measuring sleep architecture. Electrodes are placed on the scalp to measure actual brainwave activity - including delta waves (deep sleep), alpha waves (relaxation), and sleep stage transitions. Unlike subjective questionnaires or wrist-based sleep trackers, EEG provides objective, clinical-grade data on how much time you spend in each sleep stage. When a supplement claims to improve deep sleep, EEG data is the only way to verify that claim definitively.
Is the powder sachet format better than gummies for sleep supplements?
From a pharmacokinetic perspective, yes. Powder dissolves faster than gummies or tablets, meaning active ingredients reach the bloodstream sooner - important for pre-sleep supplementation where you want effects within 30-45 minutes. Powder also allows higher active ingredient density: a 5g sachet can contain 4,000mg+ of actives, while a 3-4g gummy typically contains only 200-400mg (the rest is gelatin, sugar, flavouring, and coating). The trade-off is convenience and taste experience - gummies are more enjoyable to consume.
How did you score these products - is the review biased?
We applied the same 6 criteria to every product, including our own. The criteria are based on sleep science fundamentals: deep sleep evidence (EEG data), cortisol management, hormone avoidance, dose transparency, morning outcomes, and format bioavailability. We encourage readers to verify every claim - check the labels, look up the studies, compare the ingredients. We have disclosed our conflict of interest (REINCARN is our product) and designed the scoring to be reproducible by anyone.

While we believe these criteria reflect evidence-based sleep science principles, any scoring system involves editorial judgment. Readers are encouraged to evaluate the criteria independently and determine which factors are most relevant to their individual needs.
Clinical evidence disclaimer: Clinical studies cited in this article were conducted on individual ingredients, not on finished commercial products, unless explicitly stated. The Maizinol UP165 clinical trial was conducted by KGK Science as an independent CRO; however, the study was sponsored by the ingredient manufacturer. Individual results may vary.
Product information accuracy: Competitor product details (ingredients, prices, formats, and claims) are based on publicly available information from product labels, manufacturer websites, and e-commerce listings as of August 2026. Formulations, prices, and availability may change without notice. We do not have access to proprietary formulation data for any competitor product. Where exact ingredient doses were not publicly disclosed, this is noted in the review.
FSSAI compliance: REINCARN Night Reboot is a dietary/health supplement. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulates dietary supplements in India.
