What does the research actually show?
Melatonin reliably improves sleep onset in ADHD-related sleep-onset insomnia, but improving sleep does not consistently improve daytime ADHD symptoms. Trials in children with ADHD show melatonin shortens sleep-onset latency, but the same studies did not find consistent improvements in ADHD behaviour or cognition from the added sleep (Van der Heijden et al., 2007; Weiss et al., 2006).
