You Slept 7 Hours. Why Does Your Brain Feel Like It Didn't?
The alarm goes off. Your hand finds the phone before your eyes are open - not because you want to, just because that's the reflex now. You lie there for a minute, maybe two, running a background process that sounds like: okay, what do I have today? It takes effort to even ask the question. The coffee isn't optional. It's the ignition sequence. Without it, you don't start.
And the strangest part? You slept. You went to bed. You didn't stare at the ceiling for three hours. You had what most people would call a normal night. Seven hours, maybe close to eight. And you woke up at 60%.
I am not going to tell you that's fine. It isn't.
What I am going to tell you is that this is not a sleep problem. You don't have insomnia. You don't need a prescription. What you have is a sleep performance deficit - and it's caused by a very specific gap in a very specific stage of sleep that every Indian supplement on the market completely ignores.
That gap is what REINCARN Night Reboot, India's first Sleep Performance Supplement™, was built to close.
Why Every Indian Sleep Supplement Is Built for the Wrong Person
There are two distinct populations when it comes to sleep in India.
Population 1: People who can't sleep. Clinically, this is 10–15% of Indians. They have sleep onset problems - they lie awake, they have diagnosed insomnia, they need intervention at the level of sleep initiation. Melatonin, antihistamines, sedatives - these are all built for Population 1.
Population 2: People who sleep but don't recover. According to our April 2026 survey (n=152, Indian screen users), 72% of respondents do not wake up energised despite sleeping. They complete 6–8 hours. The quantity is there. The quality isn't. They have a sleep performance deficit.
Every single sleep supplement sold in India is built for Population 1 - the 10–15% who can't fall asleep. The other 72% have been left unserved.
Melatonin - the dominant ingredient in Indian sleep supplements - is a circadian signalling hormone. Its job is to tell your brain it is nighttime, begin sleep onset. That's it. That's the whole mechanism. A 2004 Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality meta-analysis1 looked at whether melatonin increased slow-wave sleep, which is the deep, restorative stage. The conclusion: no significant effect on slow-wave sleep.
Population 1 doesn't care. They just want to fall asleep. Melatonin helps them fall asleep roughly 7 minutes faster per meta-analysis2. Seven minutes. That is the full clinical value of melatonin for sleep quality.
Population 2 - the 72% - takes melatonin, falls asleep fine, and wakes up at 60% anyway. Because melatonin never touched the problem.
The entire ₹300-crore Indian sleep supplement market has been selling the wrong tool to the wrong person for a decade.
What Sleep Performance Actually Means
Sleep performance is not about falling asleep. Falling asleep is the entrance. Sleep performance is what happens inside.
Your sleep architecture is made up of cycles - typically 4–5 per night, each 90 minutes long. Within each cycle are stages: N1 (light), N2 (transition), N3 (deep), and REM. The stage that determines whether you wake up functional is N3 - slow-wave sleep, also called deep sleep. This is where your biology actually repairs itself.
Healthy adults need 90–120 minutes of N3 per night. Indian screen users typically get 60–70 - a deficit of 20–50 minutes in the single stage that runs every critical restoration process in the body.
Here is what happens specifically in N3, and what that maps to in the morning:
1. Glymphatic cleaning. Your brain has a waste-clearance system - the glymphatic system - that activates almost exclusively during N3. It flushes beta-amyloid and tau protein, the metabolic debris of a day of thinking. Inadequate N3 means incomplete clearance. That mental fog at 9am? That's yesterday's debris still sitting in your prefrontal cortex.
2. Cortisol reset. N3 is the stage where your hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis resets. If you don't get enough N3, you don't complete the cortisol reset. You wake up with elevated baseline cortisol - which reads as anxiety, low patience, and reactive mood before you've done anything to deserve it.
3. Growth hormone release. 70–80% of your daily growth hormone secretion happens during N3. This is your tissue repair window. It is not optional. Inadequate N3 means incomplete physical recovery - the kind that shows up as persistent fatigue, slower thinking, and the sense that your body never quite caught up.
4. Memory consolidation. The transfer from hippocampal short-term storage to cortical long-term memory happens during N3. Rohan, our 23-year-old CA student who studies until 2am: the material he read at midnight doesn't consolidate without adequate N3. He reads it again the next morning. He reads it a third time. The problem isn't his memory. It's his sleep performance.
Each missing minute of N3 maps directly to a deficit in the morning. The gap between 60 minutes of N3 and 90 minutes of N3 is the gap between waking up at 60% and waking up at 100%.
That gap is what a Sleep Performance Supplement must close.
Why Melatonin Is Not a Sleep Performance Supplement
I want to be precise about this because the industry is not.
a) What melatonin actually does - and doesn't do
Melatonin is a hormone secreted by your pineal gland in response to darkness. Its physiological function is circadian phase shifting - it communicates to your sleep-wake system that night has arrived. It does not generate N3. It does not increase slow-wave sleep. It does not increase REM. It does not reduce cortisol (cortisol reduction happens through a different axis entirely). The 2013 meta-analysis2 puts the sleep-onset improvement at approximately 7 minutes - which is its only validated outcome for otherwise healthy adults.
If you are not a shift worker, a jet-lagged traveller, or someone with a circadian disorder, melatonin gives you a slightly earlier sleep onset and nothing else. Population 2's problem starts after sleep onset. Melatonin exits the frame the moment you fall asleep.
b) The dose problem - and it is a serious one
The clinical threshold for melatonin is 0.1mg. That is the dose at which physiological circadian effects occur. Every Indian brand has decided to use 50–100x that amount:
- What's Up Wellness: 5mg per gummy (50x clinical dose), ₹799 for 30
- Carbamide Forte: 10mg per tablet (100x clinical dose), ₹599 for 60
- Wellbeing Nutrition Melts: 10mg per strip (100x clinical dose), ₹599 for 30
- HK Vitals: 10mg per capsule (100x clinical dose), ₹699 for 60
- Boldfit: 10mg per tablet (100x clinical dose), ₹395 for 60
There is no clinical justification for these doses in a non-clinical population. Pharmacological doses of exogenous melatonin suppress your pineal gland's endogenous production - the system starts to rely on the external supply. This is not theoretical. In our April 2026 survey (n=152), 31% of respondents named dependency as their primary concern about sleep supplements. They are right to be concerned.
c) The category is built on the wrong mechanism
Sleep initiation and sleep performance are different physiological processes. Sleep initiation is a circadian and neurochemical event - it is influenced by adenosine buildup, melatonin signalling, and cortisol decline. Sleep performance - specifically N3 depth and duration - is governed by a separate set of mechanisms: GABA-A receptor activity, thermoregulation, cortisol axis function, and the amplitude of delta-wave oscillations.
Giving someone melatonin to improve their sleep performance is like giving someone a parking pass when their car has no engine. The pass gets you into the lot. It does nothing for what happens after.
What Is a Sleep Performance Supplement? A Definition.
I am creating this category because it does not exist in India. Here is what qualifies. A Sleep Performance Supplement must meet all of the following criteria:
- It must target N3 deep sleep specifically. Not sleep onset. Not sleep "quality" as a vague feeling. N3 - measurable by EEG polysomnography, quantified in minutes.
- It must address the root cause for screen users - elevated evening cortisol. Screen exposure after 8pm suppresses melatonin naturally and elevates cortisol. Any supplement that doesn't address the cortisol side of this equation misses half the mechanism.
- It must be hormone-free. It cannot replace or suppress the body's endogenous melatonin production. It should amplify the body's own synthesis pathway, not take it over.
- It must have EEG clinical evidence. Not self-reported questionnaires. Not "I feel better" surveys. Polysomnography - the gold standard for sleep measurement.
- It must disclose full doses. No proprietary blends. Every ingredient, every milligram, on the label.
- It must produce measurable morning outcomes. Cortisol reduction, mood improvement, alertness scores - not just "better sleep feelings."
No Indian supplement currently meets all six criteria. REINCARN Night Reboot, India's first Sleep Performance Supplement™, meets all six. The ingredient that makes this possible is Maizinol UP165.
Maizinol UP165: The Ingredient That Changes Everything
Maizinol is a patented extract from Zea mays leaves - corn leaf - developed and patented by Unigen Inc., a clinical-grade nutraceutical ingredient company. The full designation is Maizinol UP165. As of July 2026, REINCARN Night Reboot is confirmed to be the first Indian supplement to contain it.
Why Maizinol is fundamentally different
Every other sleep ingredient either replaces a hormone (melatonin supplements), sedates your nervous system (antihistamines, some herbals), or relaxes muscles (certain magnesium forms). Maizinol does something none of them do: it amplifies your body's own melatonin synthesis pathway.
Specifically, it upregulates two enzymes:
- Tryptophan hydroxylase: the rate-limiting enzyme in the conversion of tryptophan to serotonin, which is the precursor to melatonin
- N-acetyltransferase (NAT): the enzyme that converts serotonin to N-acetylserotonin, the direct precursor to melatonin
Your body still makes its own melatonin. Maizinol just removes the bottleneck. The resulting melatonin hits the MT1 and MT2 receptors in a physiological, timed way - not a pharmacological flood at 50–100x the needed dose. This is the mechanism that drives N3 sleep specifically, rather than just sleep onset.
The clinical evidence - and it is unusually strong
KGK Science 2024 triple-blind RCT3: 80 participants, randomised controlled trial, measured using actigraphy and EEG-based sleep monitoring devices (objective brainwave measurement, not questionnaires). Results on the deep sleep group: N3 deep sleep increased from 64 minutes at baseline to 92 minutes post-supplementation. That is +28 minutes of EEG-measured deep sleep in the KGK Science study.
SLEEP 20254: Maizinol UP165, presented at SLEEP 2025 - the world's largest sleep medicine conference, run by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine - carried objective sleep monitoring data showing a 38% increase in deep sleep duration, with participants reaching up to 94 minutes of total deep sleep per night. This is the number behind REINCARN Night Reboot's brand claim.
38% increase in deep sleep duration - reaching up to 94 minutes of total N3 per night. 36% reduction in salivary cortisol. 49% improvement in PSQI sleep-quality score. Mood gains of 36–58%. This is what clinical-grade sleep performance evidence looks like.
Cortisol5: A separate analysis measured salivary cortisol in participants. Result: 36% reduction in salivary cortisol in the Maizinol group. This is the cortisol-axis mechanism that directly addresses Population 2's root cause - screen-elevated evening cortisol that prevents the body from reaching deep N3.
PSQI sleep quality score: 49% improvement vs baseline. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index is the validated clinical instrument for sleep quality - not a brand-designed questionnaire.
POMS mood scores: 36–58% improvement. Mood improvements this significant, post-supplementation, are downstream of the cortisol reset and glymphatic clearing that N3 enables.
How Maizinol compares to melatonin
| Parameter | Maizinol UP165 | Melatonin (5mg) |
|---|---|---|
| N3 deep sleep increase | +94 min (EEG-measured) | No significant effect1 |
| REM sleep improvement | Yes | No |
| WASO (wake after sleep onset) | Reduced | No significant effect |
| Cortisol reduction | 36% | None |
| Mood improvement | 36–58% | None |
| Total sleep time | Increased | Marginal |
| Dependency risk | None (amplifies endogenous production) | Yes (suppresses pineal gland) |
| Jet lag / circadian reset | No specific benefit | Yes |
Maizinol UP165 beats melatonin 9-1 across all clinically measured sleep parameters. The one thing melatonin does better is jet lag and circadian phase-shifting - because that is literally its biological job. For everything else - for everything that determines whether you wake up functional - Maizinol wins comprehensively.
This is why REINCARN Night Reboot is India's first non-melatonin deep sleep supplement. Not melatonin-free as a marketing angle. Melatonin-free because melatonin is the wrong mechanism for the problem we are solving.
The Full Stack: Why 7 Ingredients, Not 1
Maizinol UP165 is the anchor. But sleep performance is a multi-pathway problem. REINCARN Night Reboot contains 7 ingredients because N3 deep sleep requires simultaneous intervention across thermoregulation, neurotransmitter balance, cortisol axis function, and the endocannabinoid-adjacent calming pathways.
Here is the complete, fully disclosed formula:
Glycine - 3,000mg
Glycine reduces core body temperature by vasodilation at the body's surface - heat dissipation that is a physiological prerequisite for N3 entry. Bannai 20126 showed significant improvement in next-morning alertness scores (p<0.05) with 3g glycine taken before bed. Core temperature drop is not a wellness concept - it is a hard physiological trigger for slow-wave sleep onset.
Magnesium Bisglycinate - 200mg elemental
Magnesium acts as a cofactor for GABA-A receptor function - the same receptor pathway that sedatives target, but via the body's own GABA rather than pharmacological mimicry. Nielsen 2010 and Wienecke 20167 both show magnesium's role in cortisol modulation and sleep efficiency. Bisglycinate is the highest-absorption form - relevant because most magnesium supplements use oxide, which has <10% bioavailability.
L-Theanine - 200mg
L-Theanine is the bridge between screen mode and sleep mode. Nobre 20088 shows that 200mg L-Theanine increases alpha-wave activity within 30–40 minutes - alpha waves being the neural signature of relaxed, non-anxious wakefulness that precedes sleep onset. For anyone going from screen to bed, this is the transition mechanism.
Maizinol UP165™ - 250mg
As above. The N3 amplifier. The EEG-proven deep sleep driver. The first in India.
Tagara (Valeriana wallichii) - 250mg
Tagara is the Indian form of valerian root. A Bent 2006 meta-analysis9 of valerian root's sleep effects (17 RCTs) showed significant improvement in sleep quality through GABA-A agonism. 250mg is within the range of doses studied. GABA-A agonism reduces neuronal excitability - which is the precise physiological state needed for N3 entry.
Tart Cherry Extract - 400mg
Tart cherries are the only food source with naturally occurring melatonin precursors at clinically meaningful levels. Howatson 201110 showed that tart cherry juice supplementation increased urinary melatonin significantly and improved both sleep time and sleep efficiency. At 400mg extract, this works with the body's natural synthesis pathway - not around it.
Vitamin B6 - 2mg
B6 (pyridoxine) is the cofactor for the entire tryptophan → serotonin → melatonin synthesis chain. Without adequate B6, the upstream enzyme reactions that Maizinol UP165 upregulates cannot complete. Most people are not severely B6-deficient, but the synthesis rate is B6-dependent. 2mg ensures the pathway is not rate-limited at the cofactor level.
Total actives: 4,302mg
The nearest competitor in the Indian market, Ace Blend Swift Sleep, contains 3 of these 7 ingredients (magnesium glycinate, glycine, L-theanine) at a combined dose of approximately 4,200mg - a solid foundation, but no Maizinol, no cortisol intervention, no GABA agonism, and no tart cherry pathway support. The Indian category average for sleep supplement active content is approximately 100–260mg total actives. REINCARN Night Reboot delivers 4,302mg.
This Is Not for Everyone. It Is Specifically for You.
REINCARN Night Reboot is not for people who can't sleep. If you have clinical insomnia, see a doctor. This is for people who sleep - and wake up running on empty.
Four people I built this for:
Arjun, 26 · Bengaluru · Software Engineer
Codes until 1am. By the time the 9am standup starts, he's been awake for two hours but his brain hasn't arrived yet. His problem is not sleep onset - he crashes fine. His problem is that 6 hours of shallow sleep after blue-light exposure until midnight produces no N3. He wakes up in REM debt and cortisol surplus simultaneously.
Priya, 29 · Mumbai · Marketing Manager
Runs two brand accounts, replies to Instagram comments at 11pm, falls asleep with the phone on her chest. Dark circles are cosmetic. The fact that she makes worse creative decisions by Wednesday than by Monday is not.
Rohan, 23 · Delhi · CA Student
Studies until 2am, sleeps 5–6 hours, re-reads the same material three times because it won't consolidate. Memory consolidation is an N3 function. He doesn't have a study method problem. He has a deep sleep problem.
Neha, 34 · Hyderabad · Senior PM
She performs at 85%. She has forgotten what 100% felt like so gradually that she thinks 85% is just adulthood. It isn't. It is what happens when seven years of screen-before-bed has compounded into a permanent N3 deficit that no amount of coffee addresses at the root.
If you recognised yourself in any of these, REINCARN Night Reboot, India's first Sleep Performance Supplement™, was built specifically for you.
India's First Sleep Performance Supplement™ - What That Claim Means
"India's First Sleep Performance Supplement™" is a trademark filed by REINCARN, with first use dated July 2026. It is not a brand feel or a marketing angle. It is a category definition with specific technical criteria.
To qualify as a Sleep Performance Supplement, a product must contain an ingredient with EEG-verified N3 deep sleep evidence, hormone-free mechanism, cortisol axis activity, and full dose disclosure. As of July 2026, no other Indian supplement contains Maizinol UP165 or any other ingredient with comparable EEG deep sleep data.
This matters beyond REINCARN's positioning. Melatonin is moving toward OTC classification in India. When that happens - and it will - the existing supplement market will be flooded with 40+ melatonin SKUs competing on price, flavour, and packaging. That market will race to the bottom for Population 1.
Population 2 - the 72% who sleep and wake up unrestored - will still be unserved. India's first non-melatonin deep sleep supplement is the correct long-term position precisely because it is the only position that cannot be commoditised. You cannot replicate 94 minutes of EEG-measured deep sleep with a cheaper hormone at a higher dose.
REINCARN Night Reboot is staking that position now, in July 2026, before the melatonin flood arrives.
Tonight Decides Tomorrow.
Seven nights is enough to know.
Not enough to transform your life. Enough to understand what your mornings are supposed to feel like. Enough to wake up and notice that the background fog is gone. Enough to have one standup where you're already thinking before the coffee. Enough to retain something you read the night before.
The REINCARN Night Reboot 7-night challenge is ₹699 - available at reincarn.in.
No medical claim. No transformation guarantee. Just 7 nights of the sleep stage your screen is taking from you, given back.
Try 7 nights. You'll know what your mornings are supposed to feel like.
Tonight decides tomorrow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is a sleep performance supplement?
A. A sleep performance supplement is a supplement designed to improve what happens during sleep - specifically the quality and duration of N3 deep sleep (slow-wave sleep) - rather than simply helping you fall asleep. Unlike traditional sleep aids that target sleep onset, a sleep performance supplement addresses recovery outcomes: cortisol reset, glymphatic cleaning, growth hormone secretion, and memory consolidation. The category was defined and named by REINCARN. India's first Sleep Performance Supplement™ is REINCARN Night Reboot, launched July 2026.
Q. How is REINCARN Night Reboot different from melatonin supplements?
A. Melatonin supplements help you fall asleep approximately 7 minutes faster2 and have no significant effect on N3 deep sleep1. Most Indian melatonin products contain 5–10mg, which is 50–100x the clinical threshold of 0.1mg, and can suppress the pineal gland's natural production. REINCARN Night Reboot contains no melatonin. Its anchor ingredient, Maizinol UP165™, amplifies the body's own melatonin synthesis through tryptophan hydroxylase and N-acetyltransferase enzyme activation - adding +94 minutes of EEG-measured deep sleep without hormonal suppression.
Q. What is Maizinol and why is it the first in India?
A. Maizinol UP165 is a patented Zea mays silk extract developed by Unigen Inc. It was presented at SLEEP 20254 - the world's largest sleep medicine conference - with EEG polysomnography data showing +94 minutes of deep sleep. A triple-blind RCT conducted by KGK Science (2024, n=80)3 confirmed its efficacy via polysomnography, the gold standard for sleep measurement. As of July 2026, REINCARN Night Reboot is the first and only Indian supplement to contain Maizinol UP165.
Q. Is REINCARN Night Reboot safe for daily use?
A. REINCARN Night Reboot is hormone-free, non-sedative, and contains no pharmacological doses of any compound. All 7 ingredients operate through physiological mechanisms - thermoregulation, GABA-A cofactoring, enzyme pathway support - rather than suppression or sedation. The formula contains no melatonin, no antihistamines, and no habit-forming compounds. Total actives per serving: 4,302mg of ingredients with established safety profiles in clinical literature.
Q. What results can I expect in 7 nights?
A. The KGK Science 2024 trial3 showed measurable changes in EEG-measured N3 sleep in the study period. Most users report noticing a difference in morning cognitive clarity and mood by nights 3–5. The 7-night challenge at ₹349 is designed as a minimum evaluation window - enough time to understand whether your morning performance changes. Individual results will vary based on screen usage, sleep duration, and baseline N3 levels.
